Klein is such an intellectual light weight, my guess is that she blew up Milton Friedmans supposed idea of "the shock doctrine" to avoid having to deal with any of his real ideas found in any of his books.
If you asked anybody who read and understood his books and asked them "what do you think of friedmans idea of "the shock doctrine"?" "I bet they would say, what the hell are you talking about, is that in one of his books? I must have missed it"

uh, Miss Klein, ever heard of the corporate income tax? Sarbanes-Oxley? The Community Reinvestment Act? The Federally Backed "corporations" Freddie and Fannie? The goddamn very existence of the Federal Reserve? No wonder these businesses made bad loans. They are either squeezed - or flat out

One has to be dropped on his or her head as a child to think that this is an example of a Capitalist Shock Doctrine. This whole mess was created by a socialist experiment that Klein supports called Freddi Mac and Fannie Mae that has government backed loans. When a business cannot fail because of government backing, one makes terrible decisions. Moreover, subsequent to the collapse of these socialist babies...there was and EXPANSION of government not a decrease!

This kind of "bi-partisanship" is totalitarianism nothing more.
Vote every incumbent out, their only interest is in lining the pockets of the already obscenely wealthy on the backs of the middle class, meaning the other 99% of us.

Sounds like she's not pissed about capitalism, but corporatism. When the government has too much power, they can determine which cells in the "free market" will thrive (their buddies and those that can afford lobbyists) and which will perish. The examples in her book are mostly instances of this collusion between the public and private sector. For the same framework with a more logical analysis, check out Crisis and Leviathan. Before we critique capitalism, we should at least try it out.

Wall Street was sabotaged by liberals in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac scheme to turn high risk borrows loose on America. These
high risk borrowers where given homes with 0% down and no closing costs. They had no intention of paying their mortgages and because the gov't liberals were backing these loans with taxpayers sweat the loans were signed anyway.
