The Disney Company's massive success in the 20th century is based on creating an image of innocence, magic and fun. Its animated films in particular are almost universally lauded as wholesome family entertainment, enjoying massive popularity among children and endorsement from parents and teachers
. Mickey Mouse Monopoly takes a close and critical look at the world these films create and the stories they tell about race, gender and class and reaches disturbing conclusions about the values propagated under the guise of innocence and fun. This daring new video insightfully analyzes Disney's cu
ltural pedagogy, examines its corporate power, and explores its vast influence on our global culture. Including interviews with cultural critics, media scholars, child psychologists, kindergarten teachers, multicultural educators, college students and children, Mickey Mouse Monopoly will provoke aud
iences to confront comfortable assumptions about an American institution that is virtually synonymous with childhood pleasure. Interviewees include Henry Giroux, Diane Levin, Gail Dines, Elizabeth Hadley, Carolyn Newberger, Alvin Poussaint, and Justin Lewis.

For the normals, Disney is just colorful fun. Unfashionable stereotypes, sure but it wasn't meant to be taken srsly and we don't.
But I hardly think Disney has any ambition to influence morals. They concentrate on being inoffensive so that parents will let their kids watch it, that's all. Even if you spot gender roles and such, I don't think kids can pick up on it lest people around them otherwise enforce it.
Why is it that some people think that Disney created as Belle, Remus etc and as a an avatar for their "race" or gender? Am I to take it as every "white" man is as Goofy or Pete in goof troop , either nice and naïve or fat, false and greedy?
But it seems that when a member of the so called minority or women is portraited to have weaknesses the artist is a siner.

And for the love of.. the Beauty and the Beast example around 4:00.. It's a message of peace for gods sake, a message of love, a message to help, a message to solve diffrencies, turn the other cheek and so on, you can look at Belle as an avatar for diplomacy.
