Huddie William Ledbetter or lead belly as he was known has influenced pearl jam, nirvana, led Zeplin, the list is too long to name. He was from Louisiana. almost every "great" rock musician in the last 50 years has been influenced by Louisiana music. . that's why you saw the outcry for support from so many musicians when Katrina happened. now its like we have been forgotten again. Time passes slower on the bayou, and it gives us a chance for perspective. the world needs to take a lesson from us

Leadbelly didn't write this song, it's a US folk song. Leadbelly was the first one who recorded it, but that doesn't mean it's not a cover you wanker.

this song is an old folk blues song dylan was not the 1st person to sing it either, he was part of a new york folk circle that all performed at the bars and folk clubs in the early 50s , he stole the song off someone eles for his recording, and the animals stole it off him..
